There are programs and services that can help you with the financial costs of raising a child. If you have left a paid job to have your baby, there are government programs to give you this time away from your job and provide you with income while you are home. The Government of Canada's Employment Insurance program offers paid maternity or parental benefits to help you while you are staying home from paid work to care for your child. Under Manitoba's maternity leave and parental rules you are entitled to at least 17 weeks away from your job. Learn the details on these programs so that you know what you are entitled to.

Paying the bills is only a part of parenting. Manitoba has parenting resources – including classes and help lines – that can help you understand more about your child's health and development, learning, nutrition and behaviour. You can learn approaches for dealing with conflict and discipline and how to make a healthy, happy home. Other programs can help you with legal matters such as separation and divorce. All of these are there to help you provide the best environment you can for your baby and for yourself.
