Employment and Income Assistance 

If you or someone you know needs help meeting basic personal and family needs, including food and nutritional needs, you can apply for Employment and Income Assistance benefits at Employment and Income Assistance (EIA) Program Information.

Many communities also operate food banks, How to Get Food: Winnipeg Harvest, and seasonal programs such as the Winnipeg Christmas Cheer Board: Applications for Hampers. In the cooler months, the United Way operates a program called Koats for Kids, collecting and distributing new and gently used winter outerwear free of charge to Winnipeg children and their families.

Manitoba Hydro also offers some help for lower income individuals and families. Neighbours Helping Neighbours is an energy assistance program that provides low income individuals, families and seniors who are unable to pay their energy bill due to personal hardship or crisis with referrals to community support services and one-time emergency funding to assist with energy bills. Power Smart Affordable Energy Program offers lower income individuals with help for energy efficiency upgrades.
